Inauguration of Kuwait Medical Complex Skardu

The Kuwait Medical Complex (KMC) in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, was officially inaugurated on October 20, 2024, marking a significant milestone in enhancing healthcare services in the region. This state-of-the-art 100-bed hospital was established through the efforts of the Humanitarian Charity Society and the Marafie Foundation, with substantial support from Kuwaiti donors and the Government of Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, including Kuwaiti donors, top medical practitioners, politicians, renowned religious scholars, and high-ranking officials. In his address, Abdul Ilah M.R. Marafie, Chairman of the Board of Directors, expressed gratitude to the people of Kuwait and the Pakistani government for their support. He highlighted the foundation’s longstanding commitment to the Gilgit-Baltistan region, referencing previous initiatives such as the establishment of a hostel in Karachi to improve educational access for GB students and the opening of a women’s health-focused hospital in Mehdiabad in 2006.

The KMC is equipped with modern medical facilities, including an advanced operation theater, fully equipped laboratory, diagnostic services, pharmacy, and emergency care units. It aims to address the growing healthcare demands of the region, providing quality medical services to those in need.

Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan, Syed Mehdi Shah, acknowledged the challenges overcome during the decade-long journey from the hospital’s groundbreaking in 2014 to its completion. He expressed appreciation for the Kuwaiti people’s generosity and assured continued support for the hospital’s operations.

The Kuwait Medical Complex stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between Kuwait and Pakistan, symbolizing a shared commitment to humanitarian aid and the betterment of healthcare infrastructure in underserved regions.
